I'm not too worried about how it sounds while cruising sedately.

I know from experience that these sound fierce when pushed properly. At the moment, there's a parallel movement to tune exterior exhaust sounds to the level of affectation even as cars are becoming less involving from the driver's seat. It's particularly evident in Maserati, Ferrari, and Jaguar products. If you hear an actual 1960s 250 GTO, it sounds almost like a disappointment if you've been exposed to recent 458/488 acoustics. I get the same impression from 80s and 90s Ferraris; they only sound like the modern cars if you strap on a Tubi or Capristo full exhaust system. A good deal has been written about engine sound being "piped in" via stereo systems or even synthesized entirely, but the many cars of the moment make an artificially exaggerated sound that's cool but not entirely more "real" than the interior noises.

To be clear, I don't disapprove of this, but I want to give credit to something like the Acura that sounds like a normal car when not driven at 10/10 on a track; almost all stock performance cars sounded that way only 15-20 years ago. An original 1990s McLaren F1 rolling by on the street sounds rather muted and reserved. You'd imagine that it would sound like the entire starting grid at Le Mans, because, well, it actually won Le Mans. Not the case; it's more like a modern Ferrari 5 miles away...
Best,
Tim
