Automotive

I remember it well

It was built at a factory that had previously been renovated and tooled to make the Qvale Mangusta, pictured here. That car, in turn, evolved from the design of the De Tomaso Bigua concept car. There was a falling out with De Tomaso prior to launch, so the Qvales - Kjell and his son Bruce - launched the car under their own family name.

Both Qvales were business partners in the Bigua project, and Kjell had been the US importer of the original De Tomaso Mangusta. Bruce sold the Qvale factory to MG, and the MG X-Power SV was built using the drivetrain, electrical architecture, chassis, and interior modules of the Mangusta. The powertrain was a Ford Romeo-built 4600cc four-cam V8 similar to the engine in the Mustang SVT Cobra from the period. Here are a few Wikipedia photos of the Qvale.

Best,
Tim
