Story of an Old Friend: Lotus Elan, Part 4

I think I should conclude with the results of today's test drive.

LOWTUS started right up, with just a few seconds cranking and a bit of choke.

I got out on the freeway for a 20-mile run before the sun and tourists came out to play on the freeways.

I had hoped to get a photo of the plane overhead but it came through the clouds sooner than I thought it would. I can't go much faster than 75 mph because the 20-year-old tires are pretty flat-spotted. I will have to drive it a bit more this week and see if they will round out again, or if I need to buy new ones. Probably new ones - but the sizes are hard to find nowadays. It was hard back then!

In addition, I have identified a few jobs that need doing - adjust the doors so they close properly again (nasty fiberglass shards-into-fingertips job), and rebuild the pedal shaft / box as pressing the brake takes down the clutch pedal, and vice versa.

Seiko Flightmaster today.

Beauty shot at the park

Same park, same car with Steve's Jag, in 1998.

The end (for now)
