The sales will tell the story
Breguet is assuming that for every Purist client who is turned off by the sloppy design, there are a hundred other potential clients who are not overly critical. These potential clients will appreciate the heritage and accept that such a prestigious brand knows what they are doing, without examining the watch with an overly critical eye. The date is a convenient feature and the larger case makes it look more expensive and impressive.
These assumptions may be right, but I am not sure that this larger market will look at Breguet. Why would a new collector choose the Type XX over the peer-approved usual suspects from Rolex, Patek and AP? To be different, perhaps. If the broader market continues to gravitate towards the blue chip watches and enthusiasts can see Breguet isn't interesting in making the best looking watches they can, who is going to actually get excited enough to buy these new Type XX/20s? Who do these watches "speak to"?
The new movements are quite interesting, but they'll show up in a wider range of models eventually.
