I left this exact one at a gray dealer in Tokyo to think about it for a few weeks. No deposit, it was gone when I came back. It may have been $10k given the strong dollar yen at that time.
Prior to that I’d been haggling with a dealer in London about whether they’d take (I think) $11k versus the ask of $12k or so for several weeks.
I’ll be honest though; I wasn’t smitten with it on the wrist. Hence all the hesitation over probably a 18-24 month period. The only reason I was buying it was because of the backstory/movement.
It was a brain versus heart debate, and the heart won (it just didn’t excite me). The brain was dead right though, this was a watch to buy at that time.

Probably my all time favourite Cartier of them all is this Cartier Tortue Chronographe Monopoussoir 'CPCP'.
This model in white gold and with the blue dial is for me "The One" I don't know why exactly but this one just speaks to me so strongly and I just find it so beautiful. Marc

Years ago I searched for this particular version-WG, blue markings-and when I finally found it the dealer wouldn't sell to me because I was in the USA. I can't remember exactly what it was listed for but certainly under 15K USD. I ultimately got that move...
It is hard to believe, but
Cartier AD in Hong Kong sold me one at 30% off in 2003 and to sweeten the deal offered a mechanical Basculante at equivalent of 1600 USD. Tnat was before boutiques became a commonplace. How the times changes. And I still have both.
