Omega

'A Tale of Two . . .

. . . Omegas'.

Ten years ago, I acquired a '69 Speedmaster Mk II from the brother of the original owner who acquired it in Canada shortly after the moon landing.  The aura of the Speedmaster was such that it compelled impulse purchases even then.  It took five months to get it properly restored, with the advice and assistance of no less an expert than Chuck Maddox.  It was my first first Omega, and the beginning of my journey along vintage trails.

A few years later, I let the Mk II go because the person it came from, a friend of long standing, passed away under tragic circumstances.  Fortunately, another friend, mrsnak, who lives nearby acquired it, so I at least had 'visitation rights'.  Many times have I waxed nostalgic about the Mk II on this forum . . .

. . . ever since, the last time not more than a few weeks ago.  I've few regrets in collecting; letting go of the Mk II was one of them.

Well, several weeks ago, I received a curious message from our forum moderator.  He was inquiring about my mailing address, saying he wanted to send a package.  "Hmmm," thought I, "it's almost Christmastime - maybe he wants to send a pound of Brazilian coffee."

Imagine my surprise when I opened the box a few weeks ago, a few hours after writing about my old Mk II on this very forum.

I could hardly believe my eyes.  There 'twas, an exotic Mk II in fresh condition.

After getting over the shock, I called mrsnak and asked if we could meet up for a 'visitation' with his Mk II.  Last week, we met for lunch in his neighborhood.

As Melvyn would describe them, the former and current Mk IIs of my collection.  And one, the result of generosity only true friendship reveals.

Thank you, Nilo.  Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine having a second dance with the Omega that first captured my heart.

Gratefully,

Art
