5159g At Home...Waiting for Christmas

As promised, here are a few photos of the newly arrived baby!

The first negative suprise...the box! I thought Patek included a rotating box (or however these devices are called in English) with each perpetual calendar. Obviously I was wrong. sad(

The grin does not last very long on the face...as I open the box and find my beauty (obviously I opened the seal at the AD, I justĀ could not wait to make the photos at home...needed to get my hands on it right there!)

Let's take a look at the back...this is my favourite view of this watch!

However, I must say this was my second disappointment: the deployant. I thought Patek had ceased producing these "calatrava" deployants and that the new ones were more discreet, like the one I have on my 5146. I do not like the calatrava very much...actually I hate it. I may have to buy a new one...

Finally, let's see how it sits on my wrist... I was very afraid of the size of this Patek. 38mm is the smallest watch I have ever bought. And being a paneristi it would be very easy to find the 5159 ridiculously small... To make things worse, the watch I was wearing before this photo session was my PAM29A: not a 47mm PAM, but a whale compared to the Patek!

Those green lights at the back are the tritium from the PAM calling me in despair: hey, don't leave me here alone!!

The size test is surprisingly well passed. For whatever reason (maybe the thickness of the case) the 5159 does not look too small. Actually it feels and looks just the rigth size! For a dress watch, that is...

Just another final shot without the 29 on the back, calling me "traitor!"

The only concern that remains after this trial (I just put it back into the box for Christmas...) is the visibility of the hands. My sight is getting worse by the day (presbyopia, I think is theĀ  name) and although the date is perfectly visible thanks to the "window" system and the retrograde hand relatively large layout, the hour and minute hands are... Not so legible, lets say. I believe it is partly due to their baroque shape and their being black and all. But maybe the test right after the 29A was too tough a trial!

Now...until Christmas! See you then, my boy! ;-)
