28 June 2010 Singapore - This evening, 50 pax strong PuristS gathered to attend the Audemars Piguet PuristSPro event and also to meet the revered Mr Giulio Papi.
In addition, many key complicated pieces were present for our viewing pleasure. Among them were the prototype piece of the Jules Audemars handwound high-beat chronometer and the Millenary Carbon One Tourbillon Chronograph.
One more surprise for the PuristS was, Dr Thomas Mao, founder of ThePuristS , appeared too for the wonderful evening.
The location of the evening event was at one of the restaurants in the 1-ha Ginger Garden of the Singapore Botanic Gardens where over 250 species of ginger, also known as Halia (in Malay) are grown.

According to Mr Bottinelli, he was supposedly to be the translator, but with four years of studying English, Mr Giulio Papi would try not to use "his service"

Everyone all ears ...
Before Mr Giulio Papi, Dr Thomas Mao took a few minutes to say hello to all Friends, and he also found out ...

Mr Giulio Papi started his presentation about the Jules Audemars Chronometer ...
Running through the key points ...
An attentive AP ROO owner

Explaining that lubricants over time will deteriorate and affects accuracy.
Also briefed that though the Swiss lever is the most popular, it has low efficiency of about 35%.
He highlighted that currently some companies are using silicium to tackle the need of lubricants, but AP would not use 'new' materials for the functional components.
Thus AP uses another design of escapement. If I remember correctly, it should be very similar to the Robin Escapement.

Also highlighted after five years of testing, there is no wear on the parts at the escapement with no lubricants applied, thus AP
decided to adopt the escapement.
Next, to achieve chronometry, high frequency helps. The new Jules Audemars Chronometer beats at 43,200 VPH (6 Hz).
( If you would like to listen to the 43200 VPH, a recording was done, and placed at the end of this post)
A graph to illustrate that chronometry still achievable even at low amplitude after 84 hours.
After which he touched on various finishing and decoration put into the Jules Audemars Chronometer ...
Reiterating that AP would not use new materials for functional components but would for plates and bridges.
Next is Q & A.
The night ended late,about 10:30pm.
One of our smart friends, requested an autograph of Papi on the cover with the Jules Audemars Chronometer.
However, the night was not over for some Friends ....
They stayed behind to chat with Mr. Oliviero Bottinelli and Mr Giulio Papi, and view the watches !
