Had a great time at Moser's Taipei event
I was invited to attend a dinner organized by H. Moser and a local AD last night. I've known some of the key "Moser guys" and had frequent exchange of ideas on social media, but meeting and chatting with them in person was just so much more fun!
My seat was right next to Mr. Bertrand Meyland, whose elder brother is Moser's CEO Mr. Edouard Meylan, whom I have also known for some time on the web. Bertrand is in charge of Moser's operation in Asia, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia and other countries.
Bertrand is such an energetic, passionate and easygoing young man. We talked about quite a lot of things, not just watches.
On Bertrand's wrist was the Endeavour Tourbillon Dual Time. My wife said this is one of her favorites.
On the back of each guest's name card, there was a beautiful watercolor drawing of a Moser watch.
There were four different drawings in total.
Mr. Bertrand Meylan welcomed the guests with an "opening speech".
Moser make all their movements in-house, and their hairsprings are produced by their sister company, Precision Engineering, who also supply hairsprings to 25 other watch brands, including Kari Voutilainen and MB&F. Many guests were surprised to learned that.
Menu for the dinner. Sorry, I don't understand French, and I forgot to take photos of the food. But everything was delicate and delicious.
Here, Moser's sales director Mr. Nicholas Hofmann was introducing the 2016 novelties.
And of course the guests had the opportunity to handle the watches in person.
I think Moser's Concept watches are a testimony of the brand's strong design DNA.
See the funky blue central seconds in the photo above, and the perpetual calendar in the photo below? Even without the logo or brand name on the dial, one can still easily recognize that they are Moser watches.
Below are the sportier looking Pioneer series. Like many, I have been a little bit sceptical about this line, but after seeing the watches in person, I actually quite like them. They keep all the key Moser elements while offering a more active style and practicality with superluminova and 120m water resistance.
Do you guys find Mr. Nicholas Hofmann look like a certain movie star?
That handsome man on the right is Michael, who speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese and English. He's been doing a great job for Moser in the ethnically and culturally Chinese world.
My conclusions:
1. H. Moser is definitely moving in the right direction. There are doubts and critiques for sure, but these guys have a clear idea about what they are doing. You can't please everyone, but you must know your own stuff.
2. As a small brand run by a family, H. Moser treasure the close relationships they have with the customers.
3. I shouldn't have taken photos with these good looking guys. But I'm also happy in a way that my presence makes them look even more handsome.
Cheers,
Luis
