Montblanc 2016 Novelty Launch Event

At one of the newest hotels in Tokyo, Montblanc held an event for clients as well as the press at large to show the 2016 Novelty.  I have reported the more exclusive one a while ago but this is intended to be formal for the more general public (but invitation only) and the larger circle of the press corp.

(I was here on the previous evening to meet and drink with my old friend, Olivier Laurian, Director of Business Development of Montblanc now.  And there were several more items I saw BUT under embargo until further notice, so they had been removed from the display on the day for the press smile)

Well decorated for the event using one of the biggest banquet rooms of the hotel.

Last report was only/ purely for watches, but this bigger event includes other product lines, namely writing instruments and leather products.  Montblanc started by three gentlemen - Messrs. Alfred Nehemias, August Eberstein, and Claus Voss - as a pen manufacturing company, not just a pen but very innovative pen, in Hamburg 1906.  So this year 2016 is the 110th Anniversary year.

Here is a very nice video Montblanc made featuring Hugh Jackman (same as Fx introduced a few weeks ago):

...and "Making-of":  What a great actor he is, and Montblanc does not cut the corners.....

Ms. Haruyo Naka, Marketing Director of Montblanc Japan makes opening speech, and Mr. Shingo Hisai on the far right makes the presentation with lots of laughs.

Back then, Hamburg <-> New York regular shipping line was used by the company to export pens to USA (the line has something to do with Hamburger, some say....)

1. Pen
What was so innovative?  The three gentlemen came up with a pen which needs no worries about the ink leakage - the mechanism called "piston converter mechanism".  In 1909, they (the company was first called "Simplo Filler Pen Co.") introduced a fountain pen, "Rouge-et-Noir"  (not sure why they picked French name?), and, as the company grows so fast, changed the company's name to "Montblanc" because their vision and aim "highest quality, highest level of craftsmanship" with the famous hexagram logo - each one of the six peaks represents the six glaciers surrounding Montblanc.

Black precious resin coated by lacquer.  The original Rouge-et-Noir did not have the clip but this special edition comes with snake shape clip with "art nouveau" flavor.  Variety includes the fountain pen (F or M), roller ball-point pen, and ball-point pen.

This is called "Rouge-et-Noir Special Edition Coral".

And this is "Rouge-et-Noir" Limited Edition 1906.  While the two above are shiny finish, this one's body is brushed Ebonite, a very hard rubber or resin made mainly from rubber.  Ebonite has been used by Montblanc since its inception as one of the best suited material for the pen body.  Fountain pen (M) and roller ball-point pen are available.  LE of 1906 each.

Two in One - how?  The other side is the "pen" for smart phone or touch panel PC/ Laptop.

... and those who are the users of Montblanc pens....

Be patient!!

2. Leather Products
Leather products have been in Montblanc catalog for a long time, since 1926 when they started selling small leather goods.  In 1935, they built a factory/ atelier in Offenback, Germany, to manufacture leather products from pen case to notebook cover.  Since 2006, the leather products have been designed and made at its own atelier "Pelleteria" in Florence, Italy.

I wish I could talk more about these things, but this area is out of my territory..... sorry, please enjoy the pics.  I would LOVE to pick these things from Montblanc if and when I become such a person smile)

Okay, now on to watches.....

To be continued for the WATCHES!
