I have been looking to add a Patek to my collection for a long time. But being very much a bracelet guy, it really limits my choices. I would prefer a little simple complication on my watches too and so set my sight on the 5712 and 5980. I just cannot get over the asymmetry dial of the 5712 but like the unique bulls-eye chrono layout of the 5980.
As I read here that the watch is quite big and thick, I feel the need to see and try it in person before taking the plunge. It took a long time for me to finally locate one at an AD a couple of weeks ago. The dial is sure mesmerizing but the bracelet is just too thin, too delicate for the rather thick case (to me at least). I feel that this thin bracelet is really made for the thinner 5712.
So what else is left to satisfy my urge for a Patek? I always like the modern looking 5146 too and after passing up on the Nautilus, I tried one on bracelet for the first time, and that seals the deal for me. I always worried that the gold bracelet will make the watch too heavy and uncomfortable to wear, but it isn’t a lot heavier than my all steel GO Senator Week.
I understand that the metal bracelet is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I just feel that it suits my lifestyle and humid weather where I live a lot better. And after wearing it for a week or so, I am glad that I have chosen it.
Here are my other pieces, all (except one, still looking for a bracelet for it) are on bracelet as you can see:
Best,
