Panerai PAM 521: The good bad idea?
This is a limited edition, in platinum, of 100 ( not sure ) pieces, 47 mm, released in 2014.
I am not certain we covered it, this year or past year. I fell on this picture, on the net, to be credited to Panerai and Chronos PL.
The idea behind the PAM 521 is this 3646 " Brevettato " and its angular bezel.
Which was, according to Panerai, presented as a prototype...
In fact, the case back ring, mounted on the dial side.
Now is this a good idea?
The dial makes me think of the Radiomir Pam 190 / 198, you know, the Radiomir which was introduced in the catalog circa 2003 / 2004, with the 8 Days JLC movement, and its characteristic centered small seconds.
I would have preferred it with a small seconds sub dial stuck on the outer part of the dial, or even better, without small seconds.
The movement is nice, coming from Minerva, but at this level of price ( around 80, 000 USD ), I would have expected a finer level of decoration.
A good bad idea, a bad good idea, a good idea, a bad one?
What do you think?
Best,
Nicolas
