Peter Speake-Marin -- Independant watchmaker>>>

Hi all,

Here is some info acquired from the June 2001 issue of the BHI's Horological Journal.

Peter Speake-Marin went to watchmaking school in London. Graduating in 1987 with BHI credentials. He then went to Switzerland and trained at WOSTEP taking their Refresher Course and later returning to take their Complicated Course.

He worked at SOMLO Antiques in London's Piccadilly developing a restoration department and working on the finest watches available.

Peter then went to Le Locle to live and work with Renaud and Papi building tourbillons and developing new complications.

Feeling fit to go on his own, Peter has a workshop in Rolle, Switzerland where The Watch Workshop has produced its first watch.

Peter is a one man show in the making of the movement. The plates are German silver and the wheels and jewels come from three unused, identical C H Meyland movements He made all of the setting mechanism, bridges, mainplate, carriage, etc.

The engraved dial is made from silver. It is not mentioned if Peter makes the dials or case himself.

There is no mention of the technical specs for this watch. It does have two trains, one minute tourbillon, 17 jewels with the balance having diamond cap jewels.

He is working on other pieces and also takes on commissions.

Unfortunately, not much information was offered, but now you are aware of another maker of watches.

Cheers,

Curtis
