THE EAST COAST OPEN
The Piaget sponsored team, La Alegria, played an intense and exciting match against Tupungato, which coincidentally was headed by Piaget polo ambassador Nic Roldan. The competition was fierce and the teams well matched, resulting in a 13-13 tie at the end of the 6th chukker. It was Roldan who finally broke the stalemate with a well-executed penalty shot in overtime to give Tupungato the 14-13 win.
Following the match, Larry Boland, president of Piaget North America, presented trophies and the prize cup to the winning team, along with a limited edition Piaget Polo clock to Roldan, who was recognized as the most valuable player of the match. Throughout the day, Piaget hosted a field-side lounge, where spectators could enjoy a glass of champagne and get a closer look at the newest introductions to the Piaget Polo FortyFive line. In addition to the limited edition Marcos Heguy and Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic watches, Piaget debuted the new line of ladies' Piaget Polo FortyFive models in white and pink gold with diamonds.
"Piaget is proud to be a partner with the Greenwich Polo Club for the second consecutive year," Boland stated. "Although our team was defeated, it was an exciting day for us, seeing our ambassador Nic Roldan score the winning goal."
Piaget has a long history with the sport of polo. In addition to the East Coast Open, the company was the official timekeeper of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in New York and hosted the Piaget Gold Cup in Palm Beach for the third season.
