please don't shoot... pod espresso question
i really hope that this is not an equivalent of asking "which is the best quartz casio with an analog face to wear with my tuxedo?" ...
but, has anyone here given the illy francis francis x8 machine a try? or any other pod machine a try for that matter?

i know it won't compare to freshly roasted and ground beans prepared in a real machine, but is the difference really that drastic? at the current promotion, the entry price is 3-6x less than for a real machine. i don't drink that much coffee to begin with, and this would probably only get used on saturday/sunday morning - yes i know, this is probably the more reason to get a real machine as one has all the time in the world then, but maybe it's the laziness?
in general, what do espresso owners think of this? is this something to ignore and go for a real machine or is it a decent alternative if one doesn't want to invest time and money into ground espresso preparation?
thanks for your advise.
ps: i hope this is not considered shilling and is withing the rules, i didn't include prices of the current promotion but i did take the image off the website to show the product that i'm talking about. if this is inappropriate please remove the reference but i hope the body of the post can stay as i'd like to hear opinions on this.

i looked at the nespresso c100 machine. it has its ups and downs. the bad, is that it doesn't include a milk frother and i'd have to get an external machine which adds extra components and also adds to the cost. the bad thing and one thing i really dislik...

Nespresso's not bad

I have the very first version of the Nespresso machine, it has a milk frother, and the coffee selections are pretty good. I also have a Tassimo machine, which is easier to use than the Nespresso, but the selections and taste are not as good as Nespresso. ...
Iperespresso

I've had the nespresso and the iperespresso systems, as well as the Jura automatics. For me, the iperespresso is the best. There was a Time Magazine article almost two years ago about the system. The main drawback is that you only can use Illy, but I like...

I'm not sure that's true, but even still, there are only 21 capsules that for optimum flavor make only about 1.5 ounces per shot. I usually use two or three capsules at a time, no problem. I guess cost would be my biggest objection. Greg

One who is accustomed to using this machine and grinder... I find the Nespresso to make a very good shot. Pick the flavor you like, and it's quick and easy. I just happen to like grinding the beans from my favorite roasteries, and creating a drink that ta...
