A pod machine is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. I can't offer any specific advice, but I get why someone might enjoy the convenience and size, and I am sure you can find one that delivers acceptable espresso for you. That said, it will never come close to the shots you can pull with freshly ground beans and even a very low end semi-automatic machine. my problem is with the illy pods...
as stated above, they're not individually packaged; and i've read that once the whole can is opened all contents have to be used within 2 weeks... there's no way i'd drink that much coffee.

I'm not sure that's true, but even still, there are only 21 capsules that for optimum flavor make only about 1.5 ounces per shot. I usually use two or three capsules at a time, no problem. I guess cost would be my biggest objection. Greg
