Much has been written in these pages about the new PP . Yes it is dramatic and is a change from the older style PP namely 3970 and 2499.But this may not be a bad thing . It may not appeal to everyone-myself included- I am much more a afan of the older style PP, but a company has to change and move to keep ahead. Yes we like all our wristwatches to be handmade in the Valle de Joux by a master craftsman who is in touch with his historical predeccessors(?) and makes a similar model which was made 100 years ago.() But I think we are in the minority.
I see the modern pp as I see the modern Rolexes-A new watch for a diffrent part of the community. Yes there is much more bling bling appealing to footballers , rappers etc but that does not mean that I am attracted to these pieces.
Howver as long as PP continues to support its older style pieces with reapirs and the archive service it will continue to have my support.
Unfortunately other companies incl Rolex are not as forward thinking and I now certainly think twice before investing in an older piece as parts and repairs as well as provenace can be an issue.
Embrace change-it doesn't mean you have to love the piece. see it for what it is-a new direction in the company,as well as technical craftsmanship.
But I would still love to buy ref3970 or 2499 0r even 1518 before i pu tdown my hard earned dollars on a 5960.
