Seeing [in the metal] is believingš®
On most occasions I have to rely on whatever pictures or renderings a brand website shows. Usually better than that are the live pictures people take/post which gives a more realistic view of a particular watch. Then finally, of course, is being able to touch and wear a piece myself. However, I never fully realized how huge a difference that makes to see something in the middle of. My cognitive bias makes me think, āI see, therefore I knowāā¦but my recent experience trying on some Pateks taught me otherwise.
Specifically, as part of a larger consolidation plan, I was interested in looking at some preowned PCs and ACs plus one bonus piece the SA had me try. Hereā are my impressions:
1. PP 5140p blue dial: thin and dressy, which I donāt mind, but looked surprisingly too small despite my having other 37mm pieces.
2. PP 5496p with silver (not gold contrast) markers: I loved this! Solid piece of platinum, but not overwhelming; dial design surprisingly MUCH more impressive in person than online, perfect size.
3. PP 5450p Advanced Research AC: the salmon dial looks much better in person than online, but I donāt like the numerals.
4. PP 5270p: the green dial is to kill for..err, to die forš³. I understand the price now. Frankly, price aside, it has everything, but is not something to wear even semi-daily. I would consider trading in A LOT towards this, but ultimately I fear itās a piece Iāll āenjoyā having and looking at, but wonāt wear it anywhere.
5. ALS Odysseus: a surprise sleeper that really won me over immediately. Truly a nice and legible dial. And even the bracelet, which I used to think was hideous, but in person has a unique charm that I like well enough.
I didnāt get to try the PP 5236p in line salmon, but I think the blue dial version is my preference.
Anyway, a good lesson and fun time playing dress upš.
