Vacheron Constantin

My mother gave this watch to my father in 1955 as an engagement gift. I believe in the 1960s, my father had the lugs cut off and soldered a white gold bracelet to it. Would love to hear about the history of this reference, as I’m not sure what reference i...  

Incidentally, the watch has been serviced for at least 40 years or maybe longer. It is still running fine. Should I have it serviced, and would you recommend sending it to Vacheron? Thanks. ...

Very thoughtful of you. Question. Has anyone ever tried to have lugs which were removed remade for a watch, like this Vacheron? I’m imagining if it could be done, it would be expensive, perhaps more than the watch is worth?

And, yes, I assume VC would charge quite a bit for it, unfortunately. Getting the strap properly sized would be much more affordable, I think.

What is the metal? White Gold? Platinum?

The second hand does look too short. It should be same length as the crosshair second counter. It is highly unlikely VC will work on the case (perhaps their restoration department in the Geneva workshop will, but the cost would be astronomical. Note that ... 

I wonder when and how the second hand got truncated? If I ever do a service, I’ll ask them to check and install a new second hand.
