I think you have to define your collecting philosophy

Most people start by buying what they like. That’s an important starting point, but soon you will realize it isn’t enough, and hence that’s where you’ll make mistakes. As one journeys through his or her collecting years, you will start thinking of history, culture, design, heritage, innovation etc. With your finite resources, you will begin to formulate a collecting strategy/framework, forming themes in your collection. As mentioned, you will start by buying what you like, and move towards buying the unattainable. Everyone’s collecting philosophy is different, you need to define yours. Good luck, and enjoy the journey.

Best,
Gatsby

P.S. it gets lonely at the top owning all the best watches. It’s better not to own everything you pine for
