The mysterious CB dial.....

This is one of those moments where the Chronomètre Bleu reminds me why it’s such an oddball — and why photos never quite tell the full story.

I happened to catch a reflection here where the dial turns almost electric, that unmistakable bright blue. Ten seconds earlier (or later), it can look navy, slate, or nearly black. Same watch, same room, completely different personality.

That’s part of what makes this dial so fascinating. It’s notoriously temperamental, and from what’s been discussed over the years, also notoriously difficult to produce. The finishing and treatment required to get this effect — consistently enough to leave the manufacture — reportedly results in a very high rejection rate.

It’s a dial that does a lot of the work on its own. No applied drama, no gimmicks — just light, angle, and a bit of mystery. A reminder that sometimes the most interesting watches are the ones that refuse to look the same twice.

Do you see this dial as part of the charm, or do you prefer something more consistent day to day?
