I miss the old tiny Burnt Ends - used to be able to walk in early without a reservation, and the food was brilliant. Nowadays you have to go to Dempsey, and book far in advance…
We have similar taste, I also like the bars mentioned…
And No Menu sounds interesting too, if different from the usual starred tasting menu thing.

May be difficult to get a table given the short notice, but you can try Les Amis… they may still have table for lunch
For chinese/cantonese restaurants, i think there are much better ones in Hong Kong
