It’s a thing that all famous brands did and some continue to do. Need to speak to VC, PP, AP about it … 🤣
We have become so accustomed to seeing “matching” date wheels that it has become the norm.
Personally, I don’t mind the white date wheel. Remember that this is 1996. So it’s true to its period.
But if I had my way, I would remove the date completely. For all brands and models. A totally “useless” “complication” today. 
Solid caseback with “laureato” engraved. It was the first time with the laureato 8010 that the name would appear on the watch.

I have spoke to brands about the date. They agree but say the ADs say their customers want a date. I think many mainstream noobs want dates. Daft
I am more a indie brand guy and they don’t make a lot of two tone watches.
Also not a big Rolex fan but this one i couldn’t resist ...

This two-tone looks very nice,
except maybe for the non-matching date wheel. But this black-on-white date wheel is also a true Neo-vintage touch and I really wonder why they hardly ever cared about this detail back then! Best, Emmanuel

Don’t think that they “forgot” about the date wheel. They made it white on purpose. For legibility. Look at patek, AP, VC. All have models with white Date wheels. Even the VC OS today had a white date wheel. Same for the 222. Rate wheel are not supposed t...

I know, of course, that the other brands did exactly the same and it was probably deliberate for the sake of legibility, as there were no cellphones to check the date back then. But at the same time I think that they couldn’t not see how it broke the harm...
I heard it described this way
Same color date wheel is like wearing a blue suit with a blue shirt and blue tie and blue belt and blue shoes. It all “matches”. But for me, a guy dressed like that would look kinda tacky. So blue suit, white shirt, grey tie, black belt and matching shoes...
