How to maintain your watch … a bit of knowledge goes a long way

A bit of DIY knowledge goes a long way.
Today I opened up the faucet heads and cleared away the sediment that builds up. This blockage causes the water pressure to reduce. Simple to do and it makes a BIG difference. 
What’s my point?
Learn a bit about how to maintain your watches. How to clean it. How to store it and use it. How to add a link. How to remove a hairline scratch. Don’t rely on authorized dealers and service centers for the basics.
Here I have pics of my 41 mm laureato anniversary ref 81000. I wear them but I also know how to clean them and such to maintain it’s condition.

I think a lot of us rely on AD’s or certified watchmakers. Would be great with more general knowledge on this topic. Thanks ☺️
There is a role for ADs and certified watchmakers
But for some basics, I think best that we learn to do it ourselves. I have had my watches scratched by the sales guys at ADs who added links for me. The other thing about always needed someone else to do the basic for us is that we need up taking forever ...
Dental floss

I use this method to remove tight fitting straps or where the shoulders of the spring bars are not pronounced enough for the metal tools/forks to catch. 🤝
