I too am not a fan of car colabs and such. This one is a little different. Commissioned by the Abarth group in japan and Gino Macaluso used to drive an abarth in his races. So it was more of a passion project.
I would have liked to see a Scorpion 🦂 (the abarth logo) at the back of the watch. This is the only “improvement” I would have suggested.
Ever get the feeling that the current GP management is trying to “prove” itself? I get that feeling. Like they know how great the designs under the macaluso period were and they want to show that they can do better.
All they would have to do is make a 150 of these 4946 with the same dial and layout… and I’m pretty sure they would sell out. Maybe MSRP USD 10,000?
Imagine if they did it with a Skelton calibre 1800 to be show at the back.

Well, at that time very few straps in that size where available from other manufacturers. Except of course from GP (or Breguet)…
Fortunately that has changed the last 10 years where now custom straps are widely, cost efficiently and in great quality available everywhere… 👍🏻
In my humble opinion
I do not think that GP made the lug widths 21 mm to sell more straps. But no way to tell for sure either way. Let’s just leave it at that. 🫶🏼

I could stick this dial on another watch and it would mean nothing. Look at the details of the entire watch and read about the provenance as well. Fancy Dial colors alone are but a novelty for the noobs. We are watchprosite purists. We have depth. 🤝
I can say from experience
That the case proportions are perfect. I love my standard 4946. This one is really extra special. My only wish, is that water resistance was upped to make it an all-rounder; my only gripe about a lot of this neo-vintage period.
