I agree we do cultivate some interesting friendships like pen pals of bygone years. Lucky for us we can doi the everyday by just sneaking a few minutes or "more" everyday and do it with a smile know that many are enjoying the same friendships though not y... 

The exponential difference enlivened by technology on sites such as this, though, is that one can make and keep up with many friends across the globe: having that many 'pen-pals' in the days of yore would have induced terminal writer's cramp and postage-b...

you lose interest and emotion for a watch you have, let it go. Don't let it sit around in a safe or drawer. Recycle it. Find a new watch to cherish, and let the watch you liquidate be someone else's happiness. All the best H.

Others' opinions are all well and good, but ultimately you've got to live with the piece on your wrist, so find your sweet spot. It's easy to get caught up in what other people are buying, but I think you get the greatest satisfaction from wearing watches...

Had it not been my good fortune to strike it lucky on this count, what we share together here would never have come to mean as much to me as it does.

I have been very fortunate to find a dealer who: 1. started showing me watches that cost 250x years ago, when I was buying watches that cost 10x, and when he already knew I would never be a 250x guy, just to help me learn what the real limits of our share... 

That falls into the category of "you know you've made it when..." Kudos to your dealer. We may have to start a thread of 'great dealer stories' - what do you think? Cheers, pplater.

but here's a few I picked up along the way. These mostly relate to vintage watches. Better to have the part and search for the watch, than have the watch and search for the part. If the mark on the dial bothers you when you buy it, in a year from now you ...

...but one more if I may add. Whenever you make the leap and buy your first "real" piece... make sure to KEEP IT! Your first love years later might look like the worst purchase of your life, but one day it will be fun to laugh at yourself and wonder, WHAT...

Bought it the first time used for $2100, sold it for $2400 a year later and thought I was a genius... buying a watch and making money on some watch no one had ever heard of! Fast forward 10 years and I bought another PAM27C for "only" $4,800. ...
