I'll chime in...

 

Armin Strom... no matter what they come up with... will always be hard to digest by mature collectors... not because AS comes up short in comparison to the established brands, they certainly make a fine watch in all ways--but because a buyer feels that twisted pain in his gut when he considers buying an AS.... or any 'off brand' watch... you can 'taste' the death of the aftermarket... this is a watch you have to buy pre-owned to be safe.. but do I like it? I do not... however that is irrelevant... my main point here is that ALL off brands have an uphill battle.. mainly because even the 3 sisters, as it were, still deliver mainly dismal pre-owned value... but at least they are sellable, etc... Off brands can leave you in the 10-30% of list price nightmare ... hey, I am not trying to be negative so much as try to help the new collector, as I wish someone would have set me straight 15 years ago... God I learned the hard way.

That is fair enough, as a personal observation from experience - but unfair here

But could it perhaps be a separate thread - this discussion of the saleability (or not) of minor brands? Of course it applies to watches, cars, boats and many other things. And if no one buys NEW, no one can ever buy USED. Nor will the new, small, creativ... 

I've never considered your criterion when buying watches.

Mostel, With even more years of collecting experience, I have never (ever) used your criterion of "resale price " when collecting a watch. That is because that level of loss affects ALL watch brands and not just the young ones. It applied to Audemars Pigu...
