Horological Meandering

Longines

Dear Suitbert,
I have researched and found examples of the Longines 13ZN.
A very nice watch, and indeed, the movement is very similar in its construction to the UROFA 59, although obviously much much MUCH better finished, as it suits logically to a watch that was a luxury item, as opposed to a tool.
It is probably more important horologically (as a movement) than the UROFA 59, and the latter has certainly taken the former as a source, especially if ,as you say, the Longines patent dates back from 1936, two years before the development of UROFA 59 started.
The Flieger Chronograph is important in my view because, as a massively produced, purely utilitarian TOOL used at it was meant to be used, it has taken a nice invention to a totally different level in terms of UTILITY (not to mention the historical importance of the pieces used in the war).
I guess we are both in perfect agreement.
Regards,
Fred
