Parmigiani and Bugatti Event at Pebble Beach 2013: Part 3 The Watches

Working together since 2001, Parmigiani and Bugatti first introduced the Bugatti Type 370 in 2004 with a movement inside a cylindrical case that had the parts arranged like a transversal engine.  I remember seeing and handling the Type 370 at a Parmigiani event a few years ago hosted by my local AD here in SoCal.  It was amazing to see it work and to have the dial displayed on the side of the case.  And in 2010 to celebrate Bugatti's 100 year anniversary, Parmigiani designed the Super Sport that utilizes some of the Type 370 designs but integrates the dynamic styling of the Bugatti Veyron's streamlined body.  All 333 parts of the Parmigiani Super Sport is made in-house and produced in a limited edition of 30 pieces.  Power reserve is an impressive 10 days made possible by two series-coupled barrels.

During SIHH 2013, Parmigiani unveiled the new Bugatti Vitesse.  The case of the watch is made of titanium and measures 36mm by 50mm by 2mm with six sapphire crystals.  There are two models, with the orange colored version offered with a carnelian stone on the crown, and a lapis lazuli stone on the crown of the blue colored model.  Movement is the manual wind PF372.  The dial on the Vitesse is made of Texalium which looks somewhat similar to carbon fiber, but is unique in that it is a fiberglass based fabric with a thin coat of aluminum which gives it a metallic reflective surface.

Continuing with the partnership with Bugatti, Parmigiani offers the Atalante Flyback Chronograph which debuted during the 2010 SIHH.  This was actually the first flyback chronograph movement for Parmigiani and uses the PF 335 caliber movement.  The dial is unique and pays homage to Bugatti's styling.  The open-worked dial has vertical skeletonized bars which is inspired by the Bugatti Atalante 57S grill.  The 'EB' Bugatti emblem is adorned in rose gold at the 6 o'clock position and the Parmgiani Fleurier plate is located at the 12 o'clock position.

The women's version of the Atalante is available in 18k white or rose gold.  The bezel is set with 68 diamonds totaling approx 1.05 carats.  I like the the fine details of having the subdial set with smaller diamonds around the perimeter of the subdial.

Also on display was the limited edition Parmigiani  Fleurier Pershing 'Confederacao Brasileira de Futebol' Chronograph.  This watch collection is part of the Parmigiani / CBF partnership that will run through to 2015.  As some may already know, the CBF is the governing body of soccer (aka football) in Brazil, which is also host country of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.  The Pershing Chronograph is offered in various precious metals with a 45mm size case and the PF334 automatic movement and Hermes alligator strap.  Power reserve is good for 50 hours.

The men's model is offered in either a titanium or rose gold case and rose gold bezel.  On display were the CBF versions and a regular production versions.

In typical Parmigiani fashion, the women's version is luxuriously done with a diamond set pink gold bezel with a 42mm diameter stainless steel case.  The dial is visually iridescent mother-of-pearl with pink gold numerals and hour markers.  The watch is easy to read with the blue outlined delta shaped hour and minute luminous hands. This model is paired with the PF334 movement and comes with a white Hermes alligator strap with deployment buckle.

Next is the welcome speech and dinner presented by Bugatti collector Mr. Hull and Ms. Mazzocchi of Parmigiani Fleurier Americas.  Stayed for more from the event.
