I wanted to post some pictures of my Jaquet Droz Grande Seconds Marine since very little has been written about this watch. This model was first released in 2004 I believe and it was JD's first attempt at a sporty watch within the new regime. (which is now gone) In 2006 they released this watch again with a black dial and in 8 pieces. Its the only Grande Seconds they made that is water resistant up to 100m as well as being their only chronometer. Built as a nautical watch, JD attempted to make this asymmetrical looking bezel in the shape of a porthole.
I have a hard time seeing this bezel as a porthole but it is very unique looking. The blued hands against the enamel dial is really breath taking.
Here is a picture of the watch next to my other JD which is the more traditional looking Grande Seconds.
You'll see as you flip the backs over you can tell a difference in the leather straps. The Marine strap comes with a rubber coating on the back making it more water resistant. JD now makes a rubber strap so I bet one of those would look good too.
How about some wrist shots..........
The Marine has a bigger presence on the wrist, it's a much heavier watch with all the extra gold on the bezel were as the rose gold Grande Seconds is the more elegant. Two very different watches in the same line. I like them both!
I hope you guys enjoyed the little review. JD makes a great watch, they do an outstanding job with their dial work and case finishing. With company now going through a transition period hopefully JD can find their way back to what made them so great. (along with a dedicated forum on these boards again!!!)
