Now that many BW2018 novelties have been revealed, I realized that this is my fifth season since I began following the big watch shows, i.e. SIHH and BW shows in 2014 were the first year in which I started looking (and was in a position to contemplate buying). All to say, I began to wonder, especially for Purists here of much longer involvement over time than I, how many watch releases presented at these two shows over the years ended up being actually purchased (and kept!) by members here?
We all see many many watches, many of which we may admire, but that is very different from actually buying. Have certain years been more appealing than others? If so, which ones, and which watches?
For me, there actually were two watches in 2014 that were released (one at SIHH and one at BW) that I purchased brand new from ADs, although I actually didn't get them until March 2015 (due to delay in production) and April 2017 (due to difficulty in finding one new at an AD which would still have full new warranty) (after such a long time delay!)
2015, 2016 and 2017 shows did not present any watches that I chose to purchase.
And now, year 5 for me, 2018 has presented one watch which, although yes I do not yet own, I already have placed my order, so I will count that as a purchase despite my own rules of the poll. I keep my watches.
So 5 years for me, ten shows, and 3 watches. Am I typical of the average member here?
Importantly, let me clarify that I do not want to include purchases of any other (new) watches that we have that were released outside of the SIHH and BW shows, because manufacturers do release watches through the year outside of SIHH and BW. Purchase of those watches would be a different set of statistics, which also might be interesting to tabulate.
Although we are a self-selective group, I think it would be most interesting to develop some numbers as to how we actually purchase our (new) watches. And it might interest the manufacturers as well, if we also divulge which watches we actually purchased.

I would say there is at least one watch from SIHH and one from Basel that I add to my wish list so 10 in the last 10 years. From there, I re-evaluate and reduce that number to about 1/year. It's all relative though as someone with more resources would buy...

I had never purchased anything. But in 2018, it is one from the SIHH (which I attended) and two from Basel (which I have not attended)!

Indeed. The top shelf manufacturers have now yet again raised prices of their desirable pieces. I have been more than satisfied with 4 figure watches and the world of 5 or 6 figure...
watches is not in my league. When it comes to price, remember, if you have to ask... [you can't afford it]!!
I have only bought a watch as a result of SIHH/Baselworld offerings —
that was the Omega CK 2998 L.E. in 2016 during the span of years that you specify. There is a strong chance I will buy another Omega this year — a 2018 Baselworld offering.
2009: Zenith New Vintage '69. 2013: GS SBGW047. 2017: Ω Rail. Three . . .
. . . over a course of ten years. And the first two have departed my collection. What I can say with near absolute certainty is that the limited Rail will be my last new acquisition ever. And when my watchmaker retires, I'm swearing off watches altogether...
