Horological Meandering

SpaceOne - World Timer

“Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea…”

Don’t panic. Bring a towel.

25th of May is Bring a Towel Day, to commemorate the work of Douglas Adams, and the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books.

SpaceOne has tried to walk the path of Max Büsser and his friends, but in the world of microbrands, and to be honest I think it’s a success.

This is the WorldTimer, a beautiful barnacle that separates almost everything into its own little subdials. The dial at six o clock shows the hour, while the bigger one at 3 o’clock shows the minutes and seconds on two different rotating discs. The full circle to the left of the watch shows the time in different time zones, and can be changed based on where you are.

It’s a bold design in a titanium case, but I didn’t like the nylon strap it shipped with, so I put in on an ostrich leg strap from Delugs.

The watch reminds me not to take this hobby - or the rest of the world - too seriously.
