Personally I enjoy wearing rare watches in daily life. It doesn't mean that I don’t care about them, it’s just that I don’t get hung up about values. People banging on about values just spoil the pleasure.

When I started participating on watch forums in the late 1990's the talk was different. Back then it was mostly the true fans who spoke more of the technical side of our hobby. Now it's a race to get popular models at all cost just to say you have it. Som... 

I know two ADs in Minnesota (just north of where I'm perched in Iowa) that would NEVER charge a premium on top of Rolex's set msrp. I've discussed this with both, and both agree that there's just no sense in gouging enthusiasts. The watches are expensive ... 

We live in an age where there are more amazing watches for sale than ever before. The watch market is truly bountiful. Tons of great stuff out there for *real* watch enthusiasts who like watches qua watches, rather than mere ostentatious symbols of luxury...
