Very interesting, although I would agree with the fact that the Apple Watch is a gadget, what else would it be? However, gadget from Apple have a good track record for selling like hot cakes and I believe it to be much easier for a company like say, Swatch, to incorporate smartness in their line of watches than for Apple to start manufacturing mechanical watches. History has shown over and over that once on top, an individual, a company or a country for that matter, tends to become arrogant and of course lazy minds will always attribute this "phenomenon" to the "nature" of the human being. Are we supposed to evolve or what?
In my view there will always be people attracted by excellence, beauty and the appreciation of human ingenuity to design and produce little cogs, screws and wheels. This is also part of the "nature" of the human being. I doubt that the big watch manufacturers in Switzerland would have been taken by surprise in these days and age of hyper, speedy information, of course some "players" will suffer but I bet that we are in for some nice surprises coming from the land of the holed cheeses and creamy chocolate.

It's not so much the digital pixels that killed the film industry, it's the fact that digital technology brought a change to consumer behaviour. When it first appeared, diehard film user argued film is here to stay, that it offer better quality, etc., etc...

10K and below, what will that do to the Swiss watches at those price points? Raising prices on those watches will not increase sales and lowering them will eat into profits. Losing entry level mechanical watches seems to me to be bad for the industry.
