Horological Meandering

You've made an important point.

There will be some young people who have not worn a watch before and who are the type to have every new tech item who will buy this watch. Some may very well become intrigued by the idea of wristwatches and will look at what has already been out there-whether it be quartz or mechanical. And some will buy the not too expensive watches available.

Those who invest-or can invest- in a 10K Apple probably have some knowledge of traditional watches anyway. This watch will not affect whether or not they invest in mechanicals. This will either be one more watch in their collection; or the first and only. Either way, the Apple will not have an effect on sales of mechanicals.
Long and short-this is not a deal breaker for the Haute Horlogerie industry. I do not think for a minute that Swiss arrogance will harm them this time. They sell a useless item for a lot of money and have been doing that quite successfully for some time. If quartz couldn't kill them, a smart watch won't either.
