Warranty
Very interesting post and I would be interested to see what others think.
With regard to your last point on the internet companies (not AD's) selling the brand new watches, they are probably just buying them to try to flip them on and the watches were originally bought from an AD in the first place hence the fully signed and stamped warranty card (international or just plain warranty card it probably doesn't matter). If you have a problem with the watch, I cannot see why the manufacturer would not honor the warranty on the watch as long as the card is completed correctly, stamped by the brands AD, you have not mistreated the watch and within the number of years of that warranty. Of course, if you buy it directly from an AD in the first place you simply take it back to them and they will sort it out, but that does not mean that what you have is not valid if bought elsewhere.
What you have to be careful of is a shops warranty.... this I think is much more dubious... how good is that shop as servicing or fixing a watch? do they have the right skills or watch repairers? will they be in business the following year? All these kind of questions are relevant when you have one from the shop not the manufacturer.

I'm not shure I understand the problem of open date. As long as the papers have the stamp of an authorized dealer, I suppose you can fill in the date, should you need the warranty. I bought a watch in the US while I was on holidays, at one of the major re...

Let me give you an example, although extreme.... If an AD has sold a PP 5970 to a grey dealer with an open date and the buyer marks the date 2012, When the watch is sent for service PP would e courious.... A more logical example, a JLC master compressor m...

Whether you buy it from a AD or otherwise, you only date it when your watch needs to be sent to the brand for service. No inconsistency here. Even if the Brand has stopped sending the modal, the fact is that it is an old stock. The brand can't reject that...

an AD is supposed to write the date on the day of purchase and not leave it banc forth customer to write it whenever he/she desires.... However, certain ADs do not do so..... Certain manufacturers do keep track (such as PP and Journe) and take measures ag...
Discontinued watches

Hi PP, I have seen watches being sold in Authorized Dealers at least 3 or 4 years after they were discontinued. Some of these have been with significant discount during sales and have clearly been watches that were hard to move, for whatever reason. I am ...
