Rolex has some things no other watch has... it has the closest thing to perfect design ever made, on every level. Internal quality, legibility, time-keeping excellence, collectibility, ruggedness, elegance, and resale value.
The other strange 'miracle' of Rolex is that, despite its ubiquity, it somehow feels fresh and timeless every time you wear one. And it becomes 'yours' despite the fact that seventy other guys within a mile are wearing one.
I was a very late convert, like so many, not wanting to consider Rolex for all the obvious reasons...
I think, also, that Rolex has the ability to persuade you that one watch is all you need.
There was a comment, many years ago, by a collector whose name escapes me, who said after all his years of collecting--he thought all he should do is get ' a Rolex and a Dufour' and be done with it.
I own one, and probably will always own one. I wear it a LOT.
