I think I've pressed this point in the past on the AP forum. No matter the composition of the carbon fibres, the process is just a moulding, not a forging. Forging is a very specific process aimed at aligning the grains in metal to the general shape of the piece.

awesome post! will have to re-read this. Have to say that Hublot is really making leaps and bounds with their recent pieces. Ask me a year ago if I would consider Hublot and I would have said no--but now..... As always, thanks for your observations Jason

If you really want to get a dive watch that goes deep... buy a Pita Oceana that goes as deep as 5,000 meters. But for normal wearing I still find this watch ridiculously thick. I think Hublot makes better watches, that do look good on the wrist.
Well, Pita Oceana 5000 is 21mm thick.....
... not much difference from this one. There are variety of people in this hobby, thus any brand has to make variety of watches We do respect different opinions here and that makes this world a bit more interesting. Thank you! Ken

Hi Joel, Actually, all carbon (regardless of pattern) by definition is forged. The difference is Hublot forges layers of woven carbon fibers together, while AP for example use random, loose fibers and compress them ALL together. Hope this clears it up! Be...

That Hublot Oceanographic 4000 is a massive beast!!
Do you know how it feels on the wrist in comparison to any of the Panerai 1000m Submersibles? Or the Richard Mille RM028 diving watch? This Hublot looks huge but I like the proportions and can't wait to try one on my wrist next time I visit the Hublot BH ...
As far as I remember...
.. much smaller (diameter wise) than 028 and lighter than Panerai But, yes, you should compare with those two - take into account the price difference, though! Ken

Great review, hadn't read or seen more than a pic till this. definitely a a model then had to include in their lineup. I could see someone who is turned off by Hublot's normally chunky watches and is a diver seeing this model as an good excuse to own one....
