Independents

Happy holidays and a question about smaller independent brands...

Was pondering this the other night and thought I would pose the question here. Forgive me if this has already been a prior topic of conversation.

In essence, what I am curious to know, is if you ever have any concern about such things as repairability, accessories, and such when going with a smaller independent brand that may not have a long history and may thus have an uncertain future. Clearly servicing the movement may not be a problem if it is basic enough that common parts are available but I also think about such things as the ability to have a factory finish restored (if the casework is complex and unique) years down the road or the availability of specialty accessories (such as would be the case if watch used a proprietary strap system). While I love the idea of taking the path less traveled, clearly there could be some risk of owning a piece from a company that no longer exists. Is this something that is a factor in your decision when purchasing from a smaller, newer company? Thanks in advance.
