Independents

I'm aware of that, MTF

...it wasn't just the very early subscribers, as I was given my choice of the remaining available numbers at the time I ordered and selected a "lucky" one of my own. Same with choice of case, dial, and hands, and at one point in the long correspondence over the years on this watch it was on offer to have movement engraving done by Kees Engelbarts.

The practice of manufacturing watches in a different order from the serial numbers is, as far as I know, the norm rather than any sort of novel practice -- witness the Simplicity. As far as customization goes, also par for the course -- as any Observatoire owner will tell you. Even with the Thalassa, a friend of mine had Peter put blued screws in the movement rather than the standard ones. Except perhaps for Max' pieces, I don't think any of us has the expectation that we are dealing with assembly line style manufacturing when it comes to independents!

It is specifically the mismatch of serial number and manufacturing order that has me guessing when my watch might fall in the queue...and I certainly hope that yours will not only arrive, but arrive soon.

Best,

Gary
