Anyway, to answer your question: there are not rules and simply a GRAIL watch does not exist🙅🏻♂️. As soon as you get it is not a grail anymore and all the flows that ANY watch has will become more evident. The novelty factor will evaporate soon and then you will see that the grail was not such a grail afterall.😅

Thanks! I know, first world problems and all that but you nailed it, there are so many other watches out there, "better" and "worse" however those might be defined, but no getting around DB being it's own unique thing.
I would have missed the side profile, the way the lugs bend and blend into the strap, the crazy multi part hands, the tiny little polished bezel around the power reserve, nothing would replace those. Good luck on your journey to your DB, I think nearly lo...

I've only made 2 acquisitions, a Grossmann Tefnut and Parmigiani Kalpa. I've never had any intention to sell or trade, and It would take an unreasonably good offer to make me consider parting with either. Buying carefully and keeping for life is my policy...
Sounds like a good policy! I've made a few rash watch decisions, always on the sell side, regret a few, but it's been... educational. Grossman and Parmigiani is cutting the line to the top though :)

This is an emotional hobby, that's why the rules we set for ourselves will almost always be broken.
To a degree it does force one to take stock of what they have and to re-examine whether they even still want what they have accumulated.
Otherwise there’s a risk of wasteful accumulation, IMHO.

with the added point that they be watches I wear. This is where I’ve made the error of too emotionally buying certain pieces. I like your approach where each piece has a significance and defined place in your collection.

It's difficult to always pick watches your are going to never part hands with. Sometimes you fall out of love and there's nothing you can do about it.
It is totally silly. Arbitrary. A completely fictional and unnecessary limitation. But this is a silly hobby, personally I don't find a lot of satisfaction in owning things, but I do in wearing/using things.
Things that sit around unused start to bother me. Excess consumption? Bad purchases? Clutter? With watches taking up so little space and requiring so little maintenance compared to say cars, it's tempting and easy for things to grow quickly....
