a watch watchmaking genious, he is featured in books on independent watchmakers, gets a lot of talk and has not delivered a stingle watch yet I would add Laurent Ferrier as one of the stars of tomorrow and think that Sarpaneva could fit the list as well

The way the man ignores all reasons of commercialism is amazing! He would clearly have been much better off had he just compromised a little and produced a watch to be delivered 2 years ago!!! But he search for perfection sitting in a small town in German... 

Someone like Carole Forestier at Cartier? Will people like her leave and form their own watchmaking outfits? And if they do, Would watches made by them under the richemonts brands still become collectables in due course? FPJ had a stake in designing, and ... 

The fella has his tourbillon priced like a small apartment. Certainly he is talked about and not in danger of not selling his product like Piacasso or Van Gogh! Here is a couple of names who's product sell for "relatively" modest sums: Harbring? Klings? C... 

everytime I ask him if he has anything to offer, he will say a few more months and then no news. A watch from him is very very rare sight. *CL

Hi Kevin, I do think that there is a big difference in the watch market from 10 years ago. At that time there was a generally expanding market with great consumer confidence, both large and small were expanding making new brands and doing well. These days...

need not have watchmaking skills IMO. What is necessary is strong financial backing,good marketing skills,commercial & business savviness.To make it in such a competitive environment requires an uncanny ability to deliver a product that defies the competi... 

I think that taking the plunge to go independent is a big one. It is one that I have contemplated. While watchmakers have the problem of initial capital expenditure, I had to find a way to minimize large ongoing annual costs. I could not get comfortable! ... 

... and hopefully one day you will feel able to share with us some of those stories of your watchmaking aspirations and you present partnering model. You have been most discreet and, most properly, you have avoided any 'shill', but nonetheless it would be... 

The Purist NextGen Award: We hold our own watchmaking contest. Entrants must be independent makers who have never sold a watch under their own name. Entries must be made entirely by the entrant. Perhaps it could become a regularly held contest. Best, Cali...
