Good thoughts, all! I have to say I don’t particularly object to the reflection, and have in fact had fun photographing the reflections on the Venturer crystal. I guess I’m more curious as to any aesthetic motivation for not using AR coatings. In the case of the Venturer, the reflections don’t particularly compromise legibility.
On the other hand, I traded away a Drive de Cartier with a black dial whose reflections on an apparently uncoated crystal rendered the dial completely illegible. Interestingly, it just occurred to me that the Moser and the Cartier both have highly domed convex crystals, which may also impact reflectivity.
