The reason why this stuck in my mind is because when I got the 3713 (circa 1999) in 2019 I realized that its calibre was a 79230 which is the same as the calibre in the 3786 (circa 2006). This prompted me to research the movement and find out that it hadn't changed much since the initial release in 1992. It wasn't until after the 46 mm Top Gun was released when IWC made some changes and it became calibre 79420 which is still currently used in the Ceratanium doppel.

The IWC Ceramic Doppel Chrono 3786-01 turns 15 this year. To me, the birth of the watch is the architecture from which IWC launches its endless series of ceramic pilot watches. 15 years on, the 3786-01 is still a gorgeous and timeless-looking piece. Sorry...

Well, he actually developped the doppel when he went to work for IWC in 1990...
With a patent filed in 1992. Habring left IWC in the early 2000's while the patent expired in 2012. If you ask me, Richard deserves all the credit for this movement.

Extended date window
I recall this era of IWC Pilot chronos prompted the extended date window trend. It was polarizing at the time, but has grown on me. I appreciate how it prevents the date from being obscured by the minutes hand.
