New (to me) Mark XII GL

Just wanted to share my latest  i have always been attracted to the Mark XII and have been looking at watches for sale nd reading about the model and its long history and significance to the IWC pilot line.

Stumbled across this one last week and jumped on it. One of quite a few special editions of the Mark XII. This one differs from the normal XII in quite a few ways: Titanium case, dark blue dial, markings in grey, marked with GL, not ‘Mark XII’ and - not least - an ETA movement instead of the vaunted JLC 889 movement.

The back story is that IWC made two special editions in the late 90s named after the two then owners of the Italian distributor of IWC watches. One was GL for Giorgio Lautado. The other was EF and that version did not have the date. Each version made in a series of 100.

On top of that, there was also a titanium version made with the Swedish car maker Saab, nicknamed ‘mellow yellow’ in honor of a special yellow version of the Saab 900 Cabriolet.

Anyway, here is my GL. A Mark XII with a few twists.
