But somehow, it is growing one me because it looks a bit outdated…. And for me, the older dial is more coherent with the look of the case, the lugs etc…

elegant. The newer version is very busy and a bit crowded and not as refined. My son owns the 3751 and it’s lovely. Just my two cents

The IWC Da Vinci Rattrapante ref. 3751 (approx. 1995-2000) and ref. 3754 (approx. 2000-2004) are both platinum or gold perpetual calendar split-second chronographs featuring the Kurt Klaus movement, but the 3754 is a slightly larger, updated evolution of ... 

The first generation with the chrono (without Rattrapante) in WG and the second generation Rattrapante in platinum which is still in my collection. I personally prefer the second generation by far because of its excellent readability. ...  

And I typically prefer the vintage versions of these comparisons. Not here.

The visual impact of the fonts on this iteration have always attracted me.

The entire Da Vinci case design was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s circular fortress studies for the harbour of Piombino. The concentric geometry, rounded bastions and harmonious proportions from these sketches were deliberately translated into the case ...  

Simply beautiful. And I wasn’t aware they released a newer reference in 2017. Looks lovely.

Owned two of them but the reliability always causes me stress

All my IWC PCs have been super reliable. Only the chrono of my 3751 had to be repaired at one point. This was carried out by a certain Mr. Habring, who, to the best of my knowledge, developed the chronograph function for the Da Vinci.

Both had some issues with the date at some point. 🤷🏻‍♂️
