I agree, there is probably some saturation of the market with the AMVOX2 in general. There have been a lot of versions of this watch since the original was introduced several years ago, although I would suggest that the versions are quite different in appearance. Notwithstanding JLC's marketing of the AMVOX2 v. the AMVOX2 DBS, I see them as basically the same watch with only cosmetic differences distinguishing them. I have mixed feelings about the introduction of 4 new versions of the DBS just in calendar year 2009 alone. With the all the variations, however, some people can satisfy their desire for more limited editions, while others can find just the right metal and look for their AMVOX2 (e.g., for me, the perfect A2 is the titainum DBS). I do agree, that it smacks of AP ROOism. I think JLC is trying that marketing strategy out while capitalizing on a successful watch model.
The AMVOX3 is a very different watch from the AMVOX2 just as the AMVOX2 was a different watch than the AMVOX1 -- all three basic models seem to me an interesting progression of the partnership between JLC and Aston Martin, and each one in the series features a different major complication. I wonder if we will see an AMVOX4 and what complication that might showcase...
I also wonder if we have now, finally seen the last of the variations on the AMVOX2. There were, in fact, at least 6 variations on the AMVOX1, so the AMVOX 2 has been produced in only a few more editions than its predecessor, although I think perhaps in larger total numbers when you add them all up. The AMVOX series, at least 1 and 2, has been a seriously successful line for JLC, and that is due to the fact that these watch models are outstanding in terms of design, integrity, quality, innovation (particularly in the case of th A2), and, I think, value.
In answer to the original question as to why we have not seen much discussion about the SS edition announced in January -- there has been MUCH written in this forum alone about the AMVOX2 during the past several years, as you will see if you will do a search. I am not sure how much more can be said about the SS edition other than here is the DBS now in SS. It is beautiful and has some interesting cosmetic differences from its predecessors, but it is essentially the same watch as had been introduced previously in titainium and rose gold, no?
