If you want a nice 8-days JLC...
... you need to consider the Master 8 days perpetual or the Reversos with the 8 day movement. All these are stunning in my eyes, with different level of complexity depending on how you like your dials (Grande date, moon, reserve, petite second,etc.).
A 8 day movement is very useful. I wear my Master Ultra Thin everyday but it's a pleasure to wear my Reverso Grande Reserve on Fridays and weekend without having to reset it.

For some reason I was looking at Nico's April 2013 review of the (now current) versions of the Master Date and Master Calendar. I had to chuckle at his understated observation that the previous version of the Master Calendar "did not go in the right direc...

Yes I see your point. I suppose it might be useful in a complicated watch which is hard to reset. But I think that for watches with just a date and where the date can be set independently, it's easy enough to advance the time past midnight so you can set ...
