Yes I see your point. I suppose it might be useful in a complicated watch which is hard to reset. But I think that for watches with just a date and where the date can be set independently, it's easy enough to advance the time past midnight so you can set the time correctly.
But that's a detail. My main point is that it would be nice to see the watch updated!
