JLC.... The recycling maker...
After the recycled Reverso Chrono... the recycled QP in a Polaris case... and before a Master Control Geographic dressed up today in a Polaris case, came a recycled Duometre with it's (Nice) Master Grande Tradition case....
What happened to the Jaeger LeCoultre innovation that made us dream, that kept us on the edge of our seats at every launch? It has vanished with the demise of this great house, which now dreams of being Grande....
Falling sales volumes (Richemont's sales are declining), which means that margins have to be increased by cutting back on R&D through re-embedding existing movements and cosmetic changes such as new colors for dials....
They probably imagine that the marketing facade will hide the obvious lack of innovation....
Insta marketing kill the JLC stars.... (The recycled Buggies)...
By dint of it... they kill the love I had for the brand and make me indifferent... I even forgot about the launch of the new Polaris... that's saying something... If it hadn't been for a friend who asked my opinion on this non-new product... I'd have skipped it....
I hope for their sake that many will like the 2024 "novelties", and that they'll sell plenty... Personally...
But; maybe it's my radical side talking, this doesn't suit me... There's something false about it, an intellectual trickery that blocks me.
And what can we say about the brand's attitude towards its most loyal servant over the years (I'm not talking about me).... except that it's humanly deplorable...
Things being cyclical... I hope JLC will wake up....

It’s unfortunately true… JLC has run out of inventiveness and now thinks in terms of margins (new color for dials, reuse of existing caliber/design, slight cosmetic modifications, price increases inversely proportional to emotion...). Best Ø

I do. But they don’t move me. They are more corporate than anything else. It’s as if JLC had a bunch of focus groups decide what to do. As opposed to staying true to their roots. Reminds me of modern IWC..

Yes Sir. While my reply was a bit critical, I keep in mind the fact that these are still Duos!
And all these years later, they remain fantastic timepieces. We are PuristS, so we scrutinize the details. But for new clients finding this brand, to acquire such a timepiece is likely a grail. Much respect for JLC, overall.

LOL how one render shows sharp interior angles for the dial openings while the others show the more typical rounded machine finished dial openings. Just highlights someone at JLC knows excellence and then delivered the cheap version.
Personally I love the taller crystal, might help defend the bezels a bit which seemed like easy targets on the old duometres with the flatter crystals. Neutral on the case and the change from german silver I like both old and new. I will say I liked the o...

Yes, the problem is that we were used to many innovations, original watches, daring combinations during so many years. And that we now are waiting for something in the vein we were used to have, see and admire.
The brand has to find a second breathe, and to feed our desires and dreams. But maybe we are not the target anymore, maybe they prefer less demanding new clients, ready to pay more for less. Let's wait and see... Best, Nicolas
